SFX Magazine loves The Anchor!

The super awesome UK Sci-Fi and Fantasy magazine SFX digs the book. Shweet!

Some Anchor layouts

I don't usually layout in PS, but I did for this issue. I convert the file to monotone blue and print if out directly onto the Bristol (Strathmore 500 Vellum), in effect making the layout my underdrawing, and thus, in theory, saving a little time. Thanks for looking.

Portal - Swarth (2009)

Portal is a recent discovery and Swarth was the first album I purchased. I enjoy a lot of Death Metal, but as of late a lot of it sounds the same. It has become more and more difficult to discern between the different bands, and I haven't been buying a lot of DM because of this reason. Portal is very challenging music, and I think the people that have made overtly negative reviews of this and other Portal offerings lack the intelligence necessary to understand Portal's music. The production is very different from what most metal fans are accustomed to. The drums are buried in the mix, the guitars are very prominent but are so distorted it becomes very challenging to make out the virtuoso, hyper-technical instrumentation. Portal has pioneered a truly original sound. Now, I can only speak for myself, but this album invokes a visceral sense of horror and doom, and is one of the more evil, tormented-sounding recordings I've heard. Portal grind out a hypnotic, grandiose din that is truly original, and the breathy, growling vocals only add to the overwhelming sense of terror and foreboding. This is a truly original act. I think this album should appeal to Black Metal fans as well as fans of Grindcore (the former is used to poor production and typically prefers it - not to say that this is poor production, but BM fans will appreciate having to dig around in the muck for all of the sonic tidbits hiding within; the latter because this is a churning, grinding cyclone of molten hell).

Blood Farm #2

For those folks who didn't see it in the back of The Anchor #2.

The Anchor #5

Saw this on the interweb so I guess it's cool to share.

Written by Phil Hester, art by Brian Churilla, covers by Churilla and Robbi Rodriguez.

The Breeder and his monstrous offspring have been defeated, but the mysterious Wound has set his sights on The Anchor's companion, Hofi. The Anchor must choose between finally learning the truth about his past or saving the life of the one he loves. The first part of "Black Lips" is a perfect jumping on point for anyone who failed to get aboard the comic book juggernaut that is The Anchor!

THE ANCHOR #2 SELLS OUT IN ONE WEEK!

Media Release -- BOOM Studios is proud to announce that THE ANCHOR #2 has sold out in one week, sending the supernatural sensation into 2nd printing.

Fans should keep in mind, while Diamond Comic Distributors is completely sold out, first printings of THE ANCHOR #2 may still be found at a direct market retailer near you.

Diamond Comic Distributors is making the second printing of THE ANCHOR #2 available for retailers to order immediately and the second printing will be featured soon in an upcoming issue of Previews Plus.

The second printing of THE ANCHOR #2 is also available to order immediately through BOOM!'s new relationship with Haven Distributors.

The second print of THE ANCHOR #2 carries a Diamond Code of OCT098129. The Haven Code is ANCHBOO002A.

THE ANCHOR #2 second print features a negative variant art of the Brian Churilla A cover for issue two.

Since its debut critics from numerous outlets have poured in with praise for the smash-hit series THE ANCHOR:

"…tight, vibrant and kinetic…. I have to admit, I'm a bit envious of Matt Gagnon, who is acting as editor on this one. He gets to see where the story is going well before the rest of us… Pick it up, it's on stands now." — Examiner

"… a top-notch story and what might be the most bad-ass first four pages of a comic book this year." — UVU Review

"A powerful… issue from Hester and Churilla that hits as hard as the title character." — Project Fanboy

"… story is strong and plots forward at a great pace…Issue Grade: A-" — The Pullbox

"…I was pretty impressed - I loved the fight scenes… One to watch… THE ANCHOR could quickly find a home in the hearts of those who hanker for Dr Strange and Hellboy type thrills." — Comic Book Review

"… filled with vibrant action and thought-provoking metaphysical exploration, this first issue successfully lays the groundwork for what looks to be a very intriguing, fun-filled series." — SF Site

"Don't you just love when a new comic you've been looking forward to finally come out...and exceeds all your high hopes?" – Project Fanboy

"This is a great read, quick to get through, yet immense in it's imagery. BOOM! Studios has been putting out some quality work, which, for being such a young company, is awesome. I've begun to look forward more to what they're putting out next than what larger companies are doing with their established characters. Keep it coming!"– Comics Bulletin

"If you're looking for something new I highly recommend you check out THE ANCHOR..." – Cammy's Comic Corner

"...quite effective..." – Eye On Comics

THE ANCHOR #2 features the second installment of the epic ongoing THE ANCHOR adventure and is written by Phil Hester, with astounding interior art by Brian Churilla. The first printing shipped with two covers in a 50/50 split and a third cover that was offered as a 1 in 10 incentive.

Recently, BOOM! Studios announced that in addition to Diamond carrying BOOM!'s second prints, Haven Distributors will also be carrying all BOOM! second prints. Retailers needing more information on how to order from Haven Distributors can call 1-877-HAVEN-50 or sign up on their website here: http://www.havendistro.com/retailers.html
